When Andy is departing for duty, Buddy has no problem with airport security because he is “Special Agent Buddy.”  His assignment is to watch over Jake and his mother while Andy is away.  Colorful illustrations show Buddy participating in family activities through summer, fall, winter and spring.

 

Buddy is a caring, thoughtful dog.  He even participates in school counseling sessions.  Jake and his classmates miss family members serving in our country’s military services and have difficulty dealing with their absences.

 

The American flag is honored, the meaning of the Purple Heart medal is introduced, and a traditional hometown parade features military personnel, both past and present.  Buddy’s Special Mission is a heartwarming, valuable story to share with all children.  For some, deployment is a part of their everyday lives.  For others, this will be a new concept.  For all readers, this book will encourage empathy and appreciation for our military families.
